This Artist-Made "Hotel Room" is Made Entirely From Cheap-o Cardboard

Artist-designer duo, Sarah Kueng and Lovis Caputo, who work under the name Kueng Caputo have created an unusual piece of art in the Miyako Yoshinaga Art Prospects gallery in Manhattan. The duo are promising that their cardboard "hotel room" offers a luxurious, 5-star experience, and they want you to come test their claim.

The Five Star Cardboard hotel room is really more of a cubby than a full-blown room and it is open for guests to visit -- free of charge -- during gallery hours until February 6, 2010. It is art after all.

The "hotel room" features a cardboard bed and pillows, laser-cut wall decorations and a clever LED lighting scheme (note, the lighting makes the room more like 99% cardboard.)

If viewers are inspired by this cardboard creation, they can take a piece of the show home: Kueng Caputo has created a series of do-it-yourself kits for bird, fish and flower-pattern table decorations to complement the show.

While Kueng Caputo's Five Star Cardboard won't get you a free night in pricey New York City (sigh), it could be a great way to take a load off during an exhaustive tour of Chelsea's many galleries.

Why did it take two people to design and execute this craft project?

BTW, why is a craft project in a Manhattan art gallery?
