Actress Kirstie Alley will redecorate the home of one of Oprah's fans.
It's nothing new for celebrities to tackle business ventures outside their area of expertise, but in recent years, the trend seems to have spiked. Think of mini-moguls Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, who design clothes, cosmetics and jewelry for the masses at Walmart or rapper P.Diddy, who may be better known as business mogul, producer and even designer, than as a rapper these days.
In the world of home decor, supermodel Cindy Crawford recently launched her own furniture collection with JCPenney. In 2004, retired football player John Elway launched a line of furniture for Bassett Furniture. Now, actress Kirstie Alley is following suit. She'll be tackling interior design after a recent gig on Oprah. It's hard not to wonder if these celebs are really qualified or if it just pays to know the right people.
Well, in Alley's case, you might be surprised to learn that before becoming an actress, she was an interior designer. Her decorating skills were revealed when this video, in which Alley shares her decorating dos and don'ts, popped up on Oprah's Web site a few months ago.
More recently, she redesigned a room in one Oprah viewer's home -- and she's not stopping there. Having teamed up with Oprah, Alley is giving a room makeover to a lucky Oprah fan. The catch? The homeowner can't have a lick of input: Alley is fully running the show.
For those who might be skeptical of Alley's design know-how, take a look at her advice in the video clip on Oprah.com. Among her pearls of wisdom, "Design your house in a way that in 30 years you're going to love it still," and, "If you've got children or animals, always slipcover." We think both are sound pieces of advice.
The contest was open only to Chicago residents and closed within a matter of days. We can only assume due to overwhelming responses.

Kristy is a mess, She should clean her own act up before worrying about fixing someones home. And Oprah...well, she is just into everything isn't she. Now she can act pompus about this. Can you tell I have no use for either of them?
ReplyMaybe this is how she is trying to reinvent herself, and get back into the groove. She's not so bad. And I believe the tabloids make her look far worse than she really does.
I have had the pleasure to meet Kirstie, and I think she is wonderful, Fabulous and talented!!!!!
So who ever thinks anything other wise is just plain stupid! This Women has the capabilities of doing anything such as acting, decorating, modeling, and being just super fabulous!!!!!! So, think about what you have done in your life before you say anything.......lol.....Kirstie you rock girl!
she is was also an interior decorator before becoming to being an actress. when a contestant on 10,000 pyramid
Replyshe gave that as her occupation get with it folks
Gail ... I totally agree!!!
ReplyGeez, you all are so mean, but soooooooooooooo RIGHT!!!!!!!! FOR THE BOTH OF THEM, ITS EITHER THEIR ASS HAS GREW INTO THEIR THIGHS OR THEIR THIGHS HAVE GROWN INTO THEIR ASS!!! THEY BOTH TILT!!
ReplyI cannot believe people can be so ignorant! These women are intelligent and talented...what does weight have to do with it?! Would they make snide remarks if they were underweight? Have they nothing else in their lives to keep them occupied, leaving them with only sour grapes! G
ReplyWell it seems that fat people are the only ones anyone is allowed to pick on anymore. Everywhere else you need to be politically correct. Apparently skinny people think fat people are so disgusting that its ok to hurt their feelings. Or maybe they think if they make fun of us enough we will just stop eating and become like the cool thin people. Well I like to eat and I'm fat, to bad if all those skinny, vain idiots dont like to look at me. Find something else to stare at.
All you people who are saying such negative things about Oprah and Kirstie take a look at yourselves. Oprah has helped launch a lot of careers for people not to mention her own personal success. I don't know of a single person either of them has hurt. I was in decorating for 25 years and am now retired. If I wanted to go back to it now what would be wrong with that? At least Kirstie has the education in designing to back her up. I would be grateful to either of them for any help they wanted to share with me instead of downing their every movement. You go girls?
ReplyMargaret, nothing wrong with interior decorating at all. Nothing. I think simply put, some of us are just tired of hearing about Oprah and Kirstie. In whatever form and for whatever reason. It's great for them and I wish them the best. I just don't really care and probably won't watch it if it's on TV. There's so much more to watch that actually educational in nature. No reality tv or make overs.
Margaret..........actually responding to Gail's comments to your original comment regarding the Kirstie/Oprah interior decorating hook-up. I will bet you any amount of money that when Nate, you know, good-looking Nate comes on Oprah to redo/redecorate homes for viewers on Oprah, whether it's out of the goodness of her heart or a contest of some sort, Miss GAIL is right there watching and can't get enough. Her criticism of the Kirstie/Oprah hook-up seems too convenient, petty and, quite frankly, reeks of jealousy.
I agree with you and will add there is NOTHING wrong with larger than usual people so get off their backs with unkind comments. I am a
large woman have talent and do all my own decorating and wish I had someone like Kirstie to help me. My house was built by my hubby in 1954 and has never been updated and I am in desperate need......
I just have to say some people are just to rude, is your lives so bad that you have to sit and talk about others the way you have about Kirstie and Oprah exactly what have you people done in your lives to make such a change in the world, what makes you people so damn special or better that you think you have the right to down others, what because they have made names for themselves and actually make a difference in others lives. No one has the right to judge these women nobody is perfect. Get a life and for maybe once in your lives act like adults and show others respect, I mean would you people allow your children to behave this way judgeing and calling people names no matter their status in life, you people are jealous you cant do what they can and dont have what they have so do us all a favor and grow up!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyAngiebaby,
ReplyThank you so much. I am sitting here doing my taxes and really needed a good laugh. Bless you.
Oh, what in the world would they do together. Oprah claims to be so "upper crust" and the industry has tried to label Kirstie Alley as "over the hill and under the trailer trash". I like Kirstie Alley, I hate Oprah. However, the only thing they have in common is that they can't keep the weight off. I agree with Angiebaby, open the walls up girls.
Reply2 beautiful talented women. All the garbage on this board is disgusting. Are you really all that unhappy with your own lives? Sad.
ReplySee Clint Eastwood lately? Or Gov Arnold? Fat old guts hanging out, sagging man boobs, but nobody says anything about the guys. Take a look at fatazz John Travolta...yes all of them USED to be hot hot hot! It's called aging, and it will happen to you also. I just hope everyone around you is as rude as you are to others.
ReplyAmen to that, Sista!
Love one another. It's God's command.
ReplyKirstie, you can come makeover may house anyday!
