Expert advice from Dwell Studio's Christane LeMieux. Credit: eBay
But all too often, navigating the waters of eBay can be time-consuming, frustrating and just as crazy as those antique markets we've established a serious love/hate relationship with. How to combat the crazy? Follow a few shopping tips from the pros, namely Christiane LeMieux of Dwell Studio fame:
On scoring hidden gems, Lemieux says: "My process is all about the keywords. You can really drill down to what you want if you put in the right series of search terms. I usually put in at least four words for every search -- one definitely isn't enough."
Some of Lemieux's favorite phrases for yielding sleek, modern, one-of-a-kind housewares include: Danish, midcentury, teak, Hollywood regency, Vintage, Eames, Draper (as in designer Dorothy Draper), and Parzinger (short for Tommy Parzinger, another of Lemieux's favorite designers). "The more specific you are, the better your results -- that's when you end up with the smorgasbord of stuff to choose from," she advises.
Lemieux also offered some practical tips for larger acquisitions: "Scale is so important. If you're buying furniture, measure your room carefully and pay attention to the dimensions of the piece to make sure it'll fit well in your house. A lot of vintage furniture is teeny," she cautions. "And always ask questions. Most eBay sellers are really responsive."

What annoys me about ebay is that I get enough republican hyperbole shoved at me from the media. I don't need the place I'm trying to make a living at shoving it at me, too.
ReplyeBay has really gone down hill. Feedback does not mean what it used to and it is really expensive with listing fees final value fees and Paypal fees for sellers. Oh and they bought SKype which was just silly. SO Meg Whitman talks her loot ( all CEO's are grossly overcompensated but heck I know that they single handedly make companies great and don't need staff) and goes straight into ..POLITICS???? And this article is terrible. Furthermore the trashy furniture in the pictures makes me afraid for anyone who would use that landfill crap as style
ReplyThanks Janet. Give them a try. It isnt as big as ebay but with EBID you can leave your items on as long as you want (until it sell's) with NO extra charge. I upgraded to the ONE TIME lifetime cost for better advantages (but you dont have to) and I havent been sorry yet.
ReplyHope you like it. While your there, check out my auctions (User name,, dbsthings) and see how long some have been there,, and it still dont cost me anything.
a man: What I hate about eBay is that they don't do any consumer protection. Some hackers have gone on there and pretended to be other people but eBay refuses to believe that that's possible. STAY AWAY FROM eBay!!!!!!

When someone hijacked my account and listed dozens of bikes on eBay, I hadn't been on for a while and didn't discover it. Fortunately, eBay DID catch it, deleted the bikes, and had me change my password. Also, when I bought a trailer for more than $10,000 in Utah, I felt very comfortable, as eBay does back auto transactions up to $50,000.
So much for your consumer protection complaint!
I used to buy a lotta shooting stuff on ebay, but they decided that they would allow people to sell. All legal stuff, but ebay thinks they can control what every 1 buys, f them
ReplyThe thing that is unbelievable about ebay is how they will allow an item to be listed as a NO Reserve item. Anytime the seller adds a value to his or her item, even if it is only $1.00, it is no longer a No Reserve auction. So many times you will see an item listed as no reserve with a starting price of $3000.00. That is technically its reserve price and as such in a real auction scenario would not be classes as a No Reserve item. It would be considered its starting point bid by the auctioneer.
ReplyPay"MORE"Pal, When your FORCE to use it , No wonder it stock has gone up . I use to be a EBAYer seller for 13 years, I help this company to become what it is today , When I was force to use Pay"MORE"Pal , I jump the ship after high fees growing every year and now being FORCED to use Pay"MORE"Pal in 2008 . I gave it one more shot last sept and tried that Pay"MORE"Pal, By the time I was done with selling all my items , The Fees was more then ebay seller & Final FEES , Out of $1,000.. Ebay & Pay"MORE'Pay fees , They both took out over $300.00 . I use to use postal money orders only , They only cost $1.25 and never had a problem in my 13 years of using them . But when Ebay Turn to GREEDBAY they couldnt raise their fees any more they figure they SCREW their sellers in another way .. They say take it out of shipping charges , The more you charge for shipping the more Pay"MORE"Pal takes from you . Its funny ebay tried to take control of the shipping charges, FORCING you what they think shipping charges should be , But That FAILED..
ReplyAll I can say is GREED BAY & PAY"MORE"PAL , What a combination for screwing its sellers & customers, 2 SCREWED YOU & FUNK UP COMPANIES
