When the weather is chilly and my energy is down, I retreat to my bedroom much earlier than I anticipate. Yet lately, my bedroom has hardly become the haven I hoped for. Stacks of magazines, loads of laundry and dusty books are cluttering my floors, making it nearly impossible to relax. Tonight I plan to light some candles and tackle this mess with the following steps. Feel like joining me in a quick bedroom clean-up?
Monalyn Gracia, Corbis
1. Organize Drawers
Part of the reason clean laundry piles up is from lack of storage. Take a few minutes to craft these handy drawer organizers from cereal boxes. Creating appropriate storage is the key to an organized closet and dresser, and what better price than free? Use your newly-crafted organizers for socks, jewelry and miscellaneous items. Your armoire will thank you!
2. Use Linens
If you have a nightstand without built-in storage, opt for a tablecloth or linen to cover any clutter that may be hiding underneath your nightstand. Hiding clutter like magazines or books will give you a sense of organization, even if there is none!
3. Ditch Electronics
With TVs come remotes, DVD players and wires, which all equal a recipe for clutter. If you can't live without the TV in your bedroom, opt for a covered entertainment center with additional storage for TV-related essentials. Same goes for your computer, laptop or PDAs.
4. Sift the Stuff
Remove any miscellaneous items that don't belong in the bedroom. Move vitamins, tissue boxes and lotions into other areas of the home for clutter-free surfaces.
5. Go Wireless
Opt for a wireless alarm clock. Not only will it look less cluttered on your nightstand, but those bright LED lights have been known to disturb deep sleeping patterns. My favorite model? The Walnut Cube ($90) from Dwell.

Wait, use cereal boxes for your underwear so you can afford a $90 alarm clock?! No thanks...
ReplyAnd number 2...hiding your clutter...is something I wouldn't have done even as a child.
I do like number 3 and 4 though.
It's great when articles like this provide websites to find interesting products, like Dwell. But, you may want to do your research beforehand...
ReplyIt's only helpful to provide us - here in the good ol' U.S. of A. - with the information for a website that we can actually order from. Dwell is a U.K. based store that only delivers in the U.K.
But, if you happen to be on that side of the pond, tally-ho and all that cheer - stop by one of their stores and stick the cube in your suitcase!
All I ask is that you do your homework before getting our hopes up!
