A clever idea for a decorative stair handrails.

When I first spotted this gorgeous entryway, I was drawn to the stark white (and very dangerous-looking!) staircase. However, upon a closer look, I noticed the lovely handrail. I couldn't believe my eyes, was that... bamboo? Sure enough, it was. handrails are making a comeback into decor, demanding attention and no longer fading into the background.

Love the look?
Many garden supply centers carry bamboo poles. While handrail brackets can be found at hardware stores or online. Reader's Digest's "Family Handyman" offers detailed advice for mounting a kid-proof handrail, which could easily be adapted for a bamboo rod.

We bet we'll see more decorative handrails popping up in modern homes, like these stair rope banisters seen on Remodelista. After all, it's all in the details, and sometimes an accent can make a massive impact!

When you add a stair rail, you need to be sure it's substantial enough to hold up to someone tripping on the stairs and grabbing for the stair rail for stability. It concerns me that the open side of the stairway doesn't have a rail. Anyone could slip coming down the stairs and fall off of the open side.

Even though the vases are pretty at the bottom of the stairs, I think the landing should be clear of objects. It appears that there is enough wall space opposite the stairs and directly above the landing. A shelf might be a better solution for displaying the vases, and a good way to keep the landing clear.
