A sofa made from books alone? Yes, please! Photo: Myles Aronowitz, Courtesy of MPI Media Group
Here on Shelterpop we've written about tables made of books, and even a library installation made from books. So, when filmmakers decided to transform an abandoned stack of novels into a sofa for their set of Paper Man (starring Lisa Kudrow and Jeff Daniels), I couldn't say I was surprised.
An article from yesterday's The New York Times 'Home' section highlighted the project. In the film, Jeff Daniels plays an author struggling with writer's block; at one point, his frustration with his work and an ugly couch in the house where he is staying prompt him to build a sofa from copies of his last novel (above).
While I'm sure this couch isn't the comfiest of models, we love the ingenuity behind it. Perhaps there's a new book recycling trend on the horizon? After all, books can be used as stairway railings, fireplace decorations and end tables (and can be used beautifully, I might add!). And while we'd hardly recommend sitting on a pile of books and calling it "furniture", there's definitely room for a bit of craftiness in every home.

It looks the same as when i had half Racks of Rainer as furniture in college! It was not that great but it worked....
Replyso if you fall asleep on a book-couch, and you roll over in your sleep, does that mean you're turning a new leaf?
Replyany way - i like the old-fashioned cloth couches. much more comfortable.
Yeah, sure, if you want your home to look like a dorm room, go for it. What next? Pictures of naked women all over the walls?
