After no one was interested in the $22.5 million price tag, Ricky Martin relists his Golden Beach mansion at a loss.

Although it's unclear if he ever intended to occupy the property, five-time Grammy-winning pop star Ricky Martin dumped a whopping $16.25 million in April of 2007 on an oceanfront spread in the über upscale enclave of Golden Beach, Florida. About six short months later the recently out-of-the-closet father (read all about it on ParentDish) had a real estate change of heart and put the posh property back on the market with a much higher asking price of $22.5 million.

But alas, there were no buyers at the high price and the price of Martin's Mediterranean-style mansion plummeted to $18 million before it was taken off the market. Martin, who has owned several luxury properties in the Miami area, recently relisted the mansion with an asking price of $18.9 million.

The property is protected by electronic gates that swing open to a large brick motor court that stretches out in front of the five-bedroom, seven-bathroom mansion that measures a celebrity-sized 9,882 square feet.

A dual staircase flanking a fountain marks the entrance to the rotunda-style foyer and the dramatic, ballroom-sized formal living room (above) that features a voluminous double-height ceiling, a monolithic carved stone fireplace and a trio of arched French doors that open to ocean views and sea breezes.

The recently redone kitchen has oversized herringbone-patterned brick flooring and a matching barrel vaulted brick ceiling. As expected in an $18.9 million mansion, the cook's kitchen is equipped with copious custom cabinets, a huge work island, top-of-the-line stainless steel appliances and an adjacent breakfast room.

In addition to the formal living and dining rooms, the bon bon-shaker's beach house has a library, den/game room and state of the art media room (above) with a soaring coffered ceiling. There are French doors -- hopefully fitted with black-out curtains -- and a massive movie screen with operable electronic curtains.

Were the chisel-chested singer ever to settle into the Golden Beach mansion's inner sanctum, he'd see a massive second floor master suite (above) with shiny hardwood floors, lots of windows, his and his bathrooms and dressing rooms and a private ocean-view terrace.

One of the two spa-style master bathrooms has marble tile floors and walls, a vast vanity and plenty of windows for light and fresh air. And don't forget the party-sized steam shower and gigantic soaking tub.

The backyard, where Martin might have worked on keeping his skin that signature bronze, has more than 100 feet of ocean frontage, a passel of palm trees, a swimming pool and raised spa surrounded by a wide brick terrace, a built-in barbecue grill and open-air pool cabana for escaping the skin scorching south Florida sunshine.

After he sells his apparently never lived in Golden Beach getaway, Martin will be far from homeless. The very "fortunate homosexual man" is still living La Vida Loca with luxury homes in New York City, Puerto Rico, and a even an $8 million home on a private island off the coast of Rio de Janeiro.

"His and his closets"? LOL. Ricky Martin, I thought, is essentially washed up. How can he afford all this?

He's taking a break...it's different from being washed up...you're an idiot.

  • c

just because he doesn't have a hit in america doesn't mean he isn't hot in other countries....america isn't the only country that plays music.....and his music is great!!!

  • Matthew

How is he washed up? He still does several concerts and has invested his money hes made and still makes over the years. Its called being smart with your money and hes worth multi millions!

  • Ian

Looks like more than a few people are a little jealous of him. Gay, washed up, has been, whatever you want to call him, he has much more than many of you can ever hope for. Oh, and by the way, washed up and has been do not apply to him. You may want to actually look at his career including acting and over seas. I'm not surprised that you're also too narrow minded to think that far outside the box.

  • Susan

Taking a break from not being able to give his records away. You're a jerk, "buff" daddy. Shut up.

Ricky Martin isn't washed up or been taking a break. He is still very popular in other countries, and has been making chart topping albums for many years. Besides starting his career young (Menudo), he's been in movies, done TV, and was even on General Hospital at one point. He owns multiple homes, is filthy rich, and still going strong in his career, especially in his native country. Learn your facts before putting others down, otherwise you do look like an idiot.

Susan you are a rude person. Martin has fans all over the world. Many waiting for his next album. You STFU. I don't care if he's gay or not gay, he's still a cutie and millions still enjoy his music.

IF the writer would slow down on the GAY stuff, this house might be attractive to a newly rich NBA Star but no, this fool writer wants to talk about his and his toilets and a party shower. You STUPID WRITER, Houses are not people .. therefore houses are not sexual and have NO SEXUAL PREFERENCE.
Back to the house Washed up Ricky paid 16.7 mil AT THE TOP OF THE INFLATED REAL ESTATE MARKET. Old Ricky now wants MORE MONEY after Floridas Real Estate has PLUMMETED by around 50%. Methinks Ricky Martin is full of "smelly stuff in his bon bon". He has allot of houses, per the writer and his career is limited at HIS ADVANCED for a heart throb AGE.
(He wasnt a great singer but he "was more" the harmless guy young girls dreamed of when he was young ... so now he could probably get a week or two in Vegas, do a Cruise or two, sing in some lounges but his mega earning days ARE OVER ... and those earnings will not cover his carrying costs on all of these homes and the trappings.
I hope the guy put MONEY in THE BANK because he could easily become another bankrupt "Nick Cage type" with ALL OF HIS OVERSPENDING.
The house is nice but its worth around 7 to 0 million in 2010 and will be worth less in 2011 and 2012.

You sound like a neandethal, most likely because you decended from the ape family. Great grammer, very inteligent, but I am sure your better at throwing spears and speaking ebonics. See what the first admendment can do, but then of course you dont have a clue about such things.

Surprisingly he DIDN'T buy at the TOP of the market. Sometimes paying attention makes sense. The article seemed to indicate that he might be "flipping" the real estate. Something a lot of investors do. Unfortunately, he hasn't held it long enough for the recovery to be sharp enough for him to make a large profit. Who knows why, I suppose Mr. Martin and his advisers might.

As to his career, we do tend to focus only on his US career which isn't stellar but in the world at large and especially the Latin Culture, Ricky Martin is still a force to be considered. Good luck to him and his career as well as his children. One can wish him the joy a family should bring. Who cares who he chooses to make part of his family. So long as I'm not the one being asked to share his life, it's really none of my business. :)

AMTBRAN ... DID YOU READ THE ARTICLE? He bought the place in April 2007. UNLESS you are living under a ROCK, YOU should KNOW that Mid-2007 WAS right around when the market peaked. You are acting like he JUST BARELY bought it to flip it ... or else you are CLUELESS about when this recession started.
That said, I AGAIN reiterate ... Homes are not PEOPLE and a REALTOR (and also an alleged writer that writes about Real Estate) should know it is discrimination to write any references to religion, sex, sexual orientation and race REGARDING the house. (You can indicate a home is handicap acessible) I, and you should not care if a house has been owned by a gay, a straight, a bi ... the people, hopefully, DO NOT STAY.
Again, the home is worth less than 8 million and the carrying costs (Security Company, Minimal Utilities, Pest, Pool, etc minimal cleaning and maintenance and PROPERTY TAXES) on that place, even if it there is no mortgage, run 15-30 THOUSAND dollars a month. The longer the place is emty, the more repairs it will need (Water and especially Oceanfront homes need to have the paint, window, stucco, roof, and interior surafces (Carpets, floors) changed or redone on a regular basis. If Old Ricky wants his price he will have to wait around 5-10 years (at minimum) for the Florida Real Estate market to recover to 2007 levels. Carrying Costs, not including major repairs that will be needed if the home is vacant that long should run him anywhere from just under a million to just over 3.6 mil. IF THE MARKET RECOVERS AND IF THE FEDERAL GOVT DOESNT impose an excessive carbon footprint tax on these mega-square footage places (and that does not account for opportunity cost to invest the 7-8 mil he could get if he accepts that this was a bad investment or any mortgage costs). Sometimes you just wake up and realize you made a bad investment and this one was.

The most awful, ugly trend EVER is having NO house plants. This place would be instantly beautiful with some greenery inside, and I don't care WHAT the 'designers' say.

Lee, this house is on the market and no one is living in it, so I figure that's the reason they don't have house plants.... who's going to take care of them? Plus the house is closed up most of the time and the plants would suffocate!!

  • common Sense

House plants are over rated & do nothing to improve the house. The outside has too many trees & should be trimmed. I'm tired of eco terrorists......like Lee. Cut down a tree...................................

Thanks, Ray. This guy was a one-hit wonder and hasn't sold anything to amount to a hill of beans in this country for many years. He may be popular elsewhere in the world but not in this country. I don't have anything against him or against gay people, and I think the article kind of poked fun at him, and I don't agree with that. However, with his career in decline in America, a couple of years ago he finally decides to "comes out." And for what? To get back in the spotlight, maybe, thinking it would be the "fashionable" thing to do to restart his career here? I wish him well, and, clearly, he must have invested the money he made, in order to have the homes that he has. But he is not some A-list personality that I want to read about.
