IKEA

A bright and unusual sight hits IKEA. We like it.

At first, the idea of installing IKEA's new Rubrik cabinet doors in turquoise seems like a too-bold move. Who would want to cover their kitchen in bright blue? But, after thinking more about it, and seeing how nicely the glass accent doors look against neutrals like white, the idea is more and more appealing. So often, rooms that are the most expensive to change -- kitchens and bathrooms -- are the most boring. When watching shows like House Hunters, it's amazing how many people want the same thing in a kitchen: dark wood cabinets, granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances and hardwood floors. Isn't that a no-fail recipe for a safe, but, dare I say, boring room? Sure, it sounds nice. But just like the kitchens and trends of years past, that seemingly classic combination will look dated one day too.

So why not live a little and have a bit of brightness to look forward to at breakfast each morning? Pantone's 2010 color of the year is still going strong, and no matter what the season or year, turquoise on white will always look beautiful.

Rubrik glass accent doors in turquoise cost $39-$119.

What an awesome pop of color! These would be great in an office or even a bathroom, too!

after looking at the same cabinets, walls, etc. for 40 years, I would love the colorful accents from IKEA. My income is SS only so I probably can't afford them but what a relief and joy it would be to have a lovely IKEA kitchen!! I can dream in color in the meantime!

WELL,THEY SAY THAT EVERYTHING COMES BACK AGAIN SOONER OR LATER.

THIS IS A 1950'S COLOR!! MY PARENTS HAD STAINLESS STEEL CABINET DOORS, BUT I'LL NEVER FORGET THAT FIRE ENGINE RED BACKSPLASH IN THE KITCHEN. OR THE SILVER TINSEL CHRISTMAS TREE WITH THE ROTATING COLOR WHEEL. NIGHTMARES!!!

Nice. LOATHE granite and stainless steel -- looks like a forensics lab, which is NOT what I'm after in an eating area, thanks! Just because everyone's in lockstep doesn't mean it's good. Decorating to suit one's OWN style is always best -- ditch the go-along-to-get-along same-same boring crap!

Who is the 'we' that decides they like or dislike whatever idea is being presented or product that AOL is selling but hiding the ads behind 'articles'? I have a feeling the 'we' is a bunch of 17-21 year olds who just graduated high school or college with no real marketable skillset.

I like it, especially since it's just the right amount of color to stand out, but not look dated. And that is the challenge in working with turquoise. It is a beautiful color and I confess... I do love it! But it's too easy to fall victim to an outdated, 70's look if turquoise is not used with respect, and usually, a light hand!

This is a nice pop of color. I would though like it if it were an interchangeable type of item. I think you would get tired of this cute blue after a while. So what would be even nicer is if it were an interchangeable surface so you could do different colors. Now that would be really fun!
