It's hard to imagine why Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi-DeGeneres would want to sell their enormous estate. After buying the 12,000-square-foot house for $29 million in 2007, the pair spent 2008 buying 3 adjacent properties so they could expand their home (and keep it super private). So why give it all up only a few years later?
Oh right -- $49 million. Or $60 million, if someone wants to snap up the whole compound. Wondering what that kind of money gets you? The listing doesn't actually go through a room-by-room list but the all-knowing Real Estalker lists a master suite, extensive dressing area, three bedrooms-with-bathrooms, "private nudity-encouraging sunbathing terrace" and an "under-swimming pool" space with fitness center ... among many, many other rooms and amenities (garages for the Porsches, cabanas, the works).
But that's enough talk. What we really want is to just lounge around this place. Perhaps the buyers will be generous and invite us over...

The pool, sunroom with grill and fireplace and the outdoor living room are fabulous amenities. When I launch "The Painting of Deceit" mystery/thriller book, I hope to build sales where I can have a home once again. However, my goal is to put the $ back into the business so one day I could have amentities like those.
ReplyLove your show, Ellen! You're genuine and have the capablity of turning a little something into laughter. It's a great pleasure.
Like two people really need a home this huge, nothing but greed and showing off!!
ReplyAnd if you had that kind of money...you would be living the same way..JEALOUS!!!
true
Who are you to judge?
They earned their money.
They have the right to spend it.
Why do you think you have the right to judge their life style?
Who are you?
Rich, extravagant liberals--good. Rich, extravagan conservatives--bad. Got it.
that's why the rich are different from you,and I
Really good reply.
ReplyNo, I agree because even if I had the money with all the people who are suffering in this country and abroad that just shows in your face greed and waste. Also, there are not even many actors who can even afford to buy that place let alone others. I used to like Ellen but now I think I that the next time I consider seeing her perform I'll think twice about contributing funds to her delinquency.
Disappointing, very masculine, washed out looking. $49 million? No way.
ReplyVery masculine . True. The home has no homey effect at all.
Very large and cold.
But I am happy to see gay people rich and in love and happy.
That's one of the few stars' homes I've seen that looks livable. Quite the spot. When it gets to $750,000 call me.
ReplyI dont know who is giving them advice on price, but if they have been paying attention to property values, they have not gone up since 2007, but rather down substantially. The average declines in values from 2005 till now 2011, are about 40% less on the whole. Let's say they bought in 2007 so divide 40% by 6 years decline, and get avearge anualy decline of 6.67%. So their property has a 3 1/2 to 4 year decline since they purchase or give it 25% less value than 2007 which should equal new 2001 realistic value of $21,750,000.00. I would say they are about $27 million overpriced.
ReplyInstead of doing your silly math, you should have read the article. They bought THREE more adjacent properties AFTER the first purchase, bonehead.
I wonder what it feels like to live like this ? I will never know .
ReplyAMY YOU HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR THINKING.....DON'T LIMIT YOURSELF BY THINKING YOU CANNOT HAVE SOMETHING START WITH POSITIVE AND ABUNDANT THINKING THAT YOU ARE GOING TO BE ABLE TO OBTAIN GREAT THINGS THAT YOU DEFINATELY DESERVE THEM PUSH THE NEGATIVE THOUGHTS OUT NEW AND FABOLOUS POSSIBILITIES ARE OUT THERE JUST BEGIN TO BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!!!!!!!! THIS HOUSE NEEDS MORE COLORS!!!!!!
Two women live there. But gee, by looking at the photos, it sure doesn't look like a girl lives there! I like some of the features, but overall, it looks like an bachelor pad. An UPSCALE bachelor pad, but still....
ReplyAngiebaby: I certainly agree with your view of this home. However, I personally do not like it, EVEN IF I could afford it, I would not buy it. Guess I'm used to my way of living, but it is nothing compared to this, but I love it. To Each His OWN!!
ReplyI agree! Nothing about this place impresses me a bit---very plain if you ask me.
She is not funny, she can't dance, and is annoying....and she makes mega-millions....this proves that either there is a God or that God doesn't exist...your pick.
