All About the Shotgun House

A shotgun house is so named because you can stand at the front door, fire a shotgun and see your slug fly straight through the house and out the back door. Shotgun houses are generally under 12 feet wide and have three to five rooms in a row, starting with a living room, with bedrooms in the middle and ending with a kitchen at the back.

All About McMansions

McMansions are very large homes with disparate architectural elements.

All About A-Frame Houses

An A-frame house looks like it sounds: two sides of a steep roof meet high in the middle, forming the shape of a capital letter A. The inside of an A-frame house is open, exposing the roof's angles and the ceiling's rafters. The sloping roof has several benefits: because the roof reaches the ground, there is less outside maintenance required on the house, wind resistance is reduced and heavy snowfalls can't pile up and weigh down the roof.

All About Split Level Homes

Split level homes are houses with a floorplan characterized by several small staircases and multiple, staggered levels.
