Can country style decorating be cool, sexy and modern? Yes, yes and yes. I love this room on Traditional Home's website (from a Cape Cod showhouse) because it goes a long way toward chipping away at country's beleaguered stereotype. This isn't your grandma's old-school country!

Get the Look for Less: Blue Country

Decorating isn't an exact science nor does it have to be literal. Ideas come from all walks of life. This image from The Way We Live in the City could possibly be an attic or storage room but it hit me with inspiration from all angles. I instantly thought of a linen closet with floral papered shelves and blue painted walls or a bathroom with a floral shower curtain, lilac painted walls and blue and white striped towels. All I knew was that I loved how relaxed I felt gazing at the picture.

I was inspired by this living room designed by Kishani Perera of Kishani Perera Interior Design. I love when designers mix an unexpected style (think: lucite, animal print rug, hot pink accents) into a more traditional home space. It's glitzy, it's glam, its eclectic, and I wish it was mine.
